This Activity Plan led to a successful £2m HLF bid and was cited as an example of best practice by the HLF. Key features were: widespread community consultation and participatory displays; identification of opportunities for landscape management and conservation volunteering; community engagement and interpretation along the canal and river corridor. Consultation workshops for local schools, Beaumont College and community groups were held on canal boat trips. Recommendations were made on activities for telling the stories of the local traveller community’s historic links with the canal community, as well as opportunities for creative responses by students from Beaumont College, which is run by Scope. The Lune Aqueduct is ‘One of the Seven Wonders of the British Waterways’.
